Six major categories
(1)School Health Policy
A dedicated working group is established to assess the school’s health issues, community needs, and policy priorities, and to formulate comprehensive school health policies accordingly.
(2)School physical environment
The school physical environment broadly refers to the provision, maintenance, and safety of campus buildings, playgrounds, facilities, and equipment. It also includes the creation of a healthy learning environment, a nutritious food environment, and smoke-free and substance-free settings. By controlling and improving environmental factors that may be harmful to health, schools promote the well-being of students and staff and provide a supportive environment for teaching and learning.
(3)Social environment of schools
In response to the needs of students at different developmental stages, schools not only provide academic learning but also foster interpersonal skills, social confidence, and positive relationships through group experiences. When necessary, schools adjust daily routines and practices to create an environment that values holistic health and supports the development of strong social networks.
(4)Community relationship
Community partnerships refer to the connections between schools and parents, government agencies, local health services, and community organizations. As community awareness continues to grow, and under policies promoting equal educational opportunities, school–community integration, and community development, Health Promoting Schools establish collaborative partnerships with community stakeholders to jointly create a healthy school environment.
(5)Personal health skills
Through health-related curricula and training, students are guided to develop health awareness, adopt positive health behaviors, and enhance their personal health skills and overall quality of life.
(6)Health service
Health services comprise a range of activities—including health monitoring, surveys, and screenings—designed to understand the health status of students and staff and to implement appropriate measures that support them in achieving optimal health.
